Photography & Videography

Do You Really Need a Wedding Videographer?

You do not need a videographer to have a memorable wedding. Ask whether hearing voices and seeing the movement of the day is important to you, then compare the actual coverage and films on offer.

The honest answer

There is no rule that says you need a wedding film. Photography gives you still moments; video can bring back voices, movement and the pace of a ceremony or speech. If those details matter to you, look at full examples and ask what the finished films include. If they do not, you can spend the budget elsewhere without apology.

What video adds

You might value hearing vows in full, listening to a family member’s speech or seeing the dance floor in motion. A short cinematic highlight film serves a different purpose from a full ceremony or speeches recording. Make sure you understand which deliverables are included.

What affects price

Quotes change with hours, operators, cameras, sound recording, editing, music licensing and film length. Bridebook’s 2026 report gives an average spend of about £1,514, but your chosen service may cost more or less. Compare what you will receive, not just the headline figure.

Questions to ask before booking

Ask to see an entire finished film, not just a thirty-second promotional clip. Check how vows and speeches are recorded, whether full-length recordings are offered, what happens if an operator is ill, how long delivery takes and whether the films will be accessible for years.

Should you combine photo and video?

A combined photography-and-video package can be convenient. Ask whether it means one hybrid operator or a team, and how important moments happening at the same time will be covered. The service and deliverables matter more than the package name.

Make the choice yours

If you would replay the vows and speeches, video may be worth prioritising. If you know you prefer photographs and would rather allocate the money elsewhere, that is equally valid. WedFrame’s photographer and videographer booking-question guides can help compare quotations.

Choosing the film you'll actually watch

A highlight film, feature-length edit, full ceremony recording and uncut speeches are not interchangeable. Ask to see real delivered examples and check whether the supplier records clear audio directly from microphones as well as ambient sound. Talk about whether you want preparations, the ceremony, guest messages or the evening, and make sure the contract specifies the output and delivery format.

Avoid assuming a combined package means identical coverage

A solo hybrid operator may do excellent work within the agreed scope, but cannot be in two places at once. A separate team offers different possibilities at a different price. Ask who will attend, how simultaneous moments are handled, what backup equipment they carry and how they will work with the venue.
