How Much Does a Wedding Venue Cost in the UK?
Venue prices are hard to compare until you know what each package buys. Bridebook’s 2026 average of £6,040 excludes catering, so use a full-day quote for your own date and guest numbers.

The short answer
Bridebook’s 2026 research gives an indicative average of £6,040 for venue hire without catering. That is not a useful direct comparison with a hotel package that includes meals and staff. Ask what you would pay for your date, guest count and plans, then add every outside supplier or hire cost.
What does the venue fee include?
Ask for a written list of spaces and hours, ceremony room, tables, chairs, linens, staffing, heating, cleaning, setup, sound equipment, accommodation, parking and any coordinator. Clarify exclusivity and when suppliers can arrive and leave. A low advertised fee can become expensive if essentials are charged separately.
Check food and drink conditions
Find out whether you must use the venue’s caterer or bar and whether a minimum spend applies. Ask about tastings, children’s meals, tea and coffee, evening food and cake cutting. If you want to bring alcohol, check corkage, glassware, staff and licensing before doing the maths.
Beware of time-related costs
A ceremony fee may be separate from room hire and registrar attendance. Weekend dates, peak summer months, late finishing times and exclusive use can affect the quote. Ask what happens if guest numbers drop and whether your booking includes an agreed wet-weather space.
Compare like with like
Give each venue the same date, guest count and meal format for a sample quote. Add outside suppliers, transport and accommodation, then compare totals. If you can, see the rooms at the time of day you would use them; light and noise can change how a space feels.
The next decision
Take WedFrame’s existing venue questions checklist to your viewing and add every quote to the Budget Planner before signing. Ask for written payment dates and cancellation terms.
Venue hire is only one line on the quote
A package with a higher headline price may include meals, furniture, accommodation and a coordinator. A lower dry-hire fee may require separate contracts for toilets, catering facilities, furniture, power, cleaning and waste. Ask every venue for a realistic all-in example using your approximate number of guests, ceremony plan and finish time. Check that VAT is included and whether prices can increase between booking and the wedding.
Questions about risk and flexibility
Ask what happens if guest numbers change, a supplier is late, the ceremony moves indoors or the venue becomes unavailable. Read deposit, postponement, cancellation and payment terms, and get promises from the viewing in writing. A comfortable, accessible venue with predictable costs may serve you better than the grandest room.
